Sodium polyacrylate

Sodium polyacrylate [-CH2-CH(COONa)-]n is a "super absorbant" polymer which can absorb 200-300 times it's own weight in water. This substance is found in babies nappies and through my research I have found can be used to create fake snow. On purchasing some nappies, I proceeded to remove the sodium polyacrylate from approximately 10 of them, put them in a bucket, then added water, the result is shown below!



I will experiment with this technique as a possible use for my colour studies assignment.
